I’m Harrison Savery, and with my friend Landon Watts, we’re creating a Walmart art supplies drive in honor of my late grandmother, Carma Burton. Known to her grandchildren as Nonny, she was a talented hobbyist painter who inspired all her grandchildren to find simple pleasures and beauty in the world. She encouraged us to become an active part of our community and share our resources with it. I’m fortunate to have had such an incredible grandmother who was generous with her time and talents, and I wish everyone did.

Nonny loved and supported the non-profit child welfare organization Crossnore Communities for Children in the Blueridge Mountains of North Carolina. Founded in 1913 by Dr. Mary Martin Sloop and her husband, Dr. Eustace Sloope, the school has lovingly served children for over a century. Crossnore Communitites for Children has a staff of approximately two hundred and fifty and serves children and families impacted by foster care across western North Carolina. Crossnore provides a sanctuary for North Carolina children displaced from their homes. Nonny and her friends would host a field trip and picnic for a few of the children during the summer, and she always wished to share her love of art as well.

To honor her wish and support this place of healing, this product drive aims to establish a well-stocked art studio for these children. My grandmother always said that creating and sharing art is a healing therapy that provides stillness. Please consider donating today to help fill their studio with watercolors, canvases, colored pencils, therapeutic coloring books, acrylics, watercolor paper, sketchbooks, paint brushes, craft supplies, clay, sculpting tools, and more. Your contribution is more than a donation it's the blessing of creativity, self-expression, and joy.
